Uranium Derby is a feature-length documentary about Ames, Iowa, investigating the serious and persistent dangers of toxic nuclear waste generated in Ames during the 1940s Manhattan Project. Much of this highly radioactive waste material was buried in sites around the city, several of which are residential areas today. Brittany Prater, herself an Ames-native, delves into the history behind this dangerous waste, the potential ramifications for human health and the environment, and the politics which have kept this situation from gaining a wider awareness with the public. Following the film, Prater will offer a question-and-answer period for discussion.
