The Song Poet
by Kao Kalia Yang
Ever wondered what it might feel like to be transplanted by necessity from a far different culture into our Midwestern society? Yang writes the story of her father, a song poet, who struggles his whole life, first with the dangers of the "secret" American war in Laos, then a refugee camp in Thailand, and finally as a refugee trying to make a life for his family in Minnesota. The Song Poet is a beautifully written love story of a daughter for her father, a father for his children, and a family for their traditions. Facilitator: Eileen Miller, OSF
