Life on the Color Line: The True Story of a White Boy Who Discovered He Was Black by Gregory Howard Williams
The son of an Italian-American father and an African-American mother, the author grew up in the 1950s in segregated Virginia. In this memoir of his youth, Williams recounts his remarkable journey along the color line and illuminates the contrasts between the black and white worlds. He tells of the hostility and prejudice he encountered all too often, from both blacks and whites, and the surprising moments of encouragement and acceptance he found from each. The book gives a vivid picture of racism as it existed for “regular” people a few decades ago, and is an important historical perspective for those of us who get caught up in issues as they exist in current times.
$6 per discussion, does not include the book. Registration is required by the Friday before each event.
